Lacey & Johnson offers expert restoration and repair for bamboo rods and reels regardless of make. We have extensive experience in older bamboo rods and are the logical source for restoring or repairing your old rod to its original beauty. And since we hand craft the reels we sell, we are the best choice for repairing them too. Pricing varies depending on actual conditions. Please review our R&R Policy below right.
The “Works”: Stripping, sanding, new guides and stripper, recondition ferrules, cork, wraps, refinishing with 3 – 4 coats of marine grade spar varnish, test cast, etc. Range (assuming major components are usable): $450 - $675
Refinish: Stripping, sanding, refinishing with 3 – 4 coats, test cast, etc. Range: $350 - $550
Re-attach ferrules: Remove, recondition, install, apply wraps (where applicable), spot varnish, test cast, etc. Range: $75 - $125 per station
Install new ferrules: Remove old ferrules, build / buy to match, install, apply wraps (where applicable), spot varnish, test cast, etc. Range: $175 - $250 per station
Install new cork: Remove reel seat and old cork, build to match, re-install, etc. Range: $150 - $175
New section: Bamboo selection, splitting, staggering nodes, straightening, beveling, planing, gluing, binding, sanding, building / installing hardware, wrapping, varnishing, test cast, etc. Range (depending on rod section and adornments): $375 - $ 575 per section
Complete restoration: Cleaning, lubricating, replace worn components as needed (gears, drag parts, etc.), reassembly, refinishing (if needed), testing, etc. Range: $75 - $175
Reassembly: If you take your reel apart and can’t get it back together, you’ll probably need to return it to us for correct reassembly and testing. Range: $50 - $75
Machinist time: This is required for any fabrication of new parts and will be priced at a flat rate of $50 per hour. (two (2) hour minimum)

R & R Policy
First, call and discuss your project with us. After the discussion, if you want us to provide an assessment and cost estimate, the following R&R policy applies:
1. Pack the rod/reel in a secure shipping container and send it to us freight pre-paid.
2. Include a $50.00 check to cover the cost of assessment, a detailed R&R estimate, and return shipping to you. If you wish to proceed, the $50.00 will be applied to the total project cost.
3. We will assess your rod/reel’s condition and provide a detailed schedule of work, a cost estimate, and an estimated completion date. This will be mailed or emailed to you.
4. Upon your acceptance, we will complete the R&R and notify you when finished. We will ship your order when final payment is received.
5. NOTE: We will not provide estimates over the phone without examining the rod/reel or without a check to cover the $50.00 assessment and return shipping fee.
